MUD LEVEL GAUGES - A COMPARISON OF TECHNIQUES

Information on mud levels and solids concentrations is facilitating improvements in the design and control of mud thickeners and mud washers in the Bayer process. Techniques for on-line measurement of these parameters are reviewed. Measurement of electrical conductivity is one of a number of techniques which can be used to determine solids concentrations. A practical instrument based on this principle is discussed.
