INFLUENCE OF THE QUALITATIVE COMPOSITION OF TROPICAL BAUXITE ORGANIC MATTER ON ITS BEHAVIOUR IN THE BAYER PROCESS
Suss, A.G. and Popov, A.J.
The qualitative composition of bauxite organic matter influences the behaviour of organic matter in the Bayer process. Therefore it is very important to evaluate the qualitative composition of the bauxite organics. To forecast the behaviour of organic matter in the Bayer process, we suggest the analytical method of its qualitative composition evaluation by chemodestruction fractionating and the definition of the intramolecular oxidation degree. The method of chemodestruction fractionating is based on different susceptibility of bauxite organic matter component to an oxidising agent. In our opinion, on the basis of these methods, even at the engineering stage, it is possible to forecast the behaviour and the accumulation of different organic fractions in the recycling liquors.
An evaluation of some plants processing bauxites from different deposits in Australia, Jamaica, Guinea etc. shows how the qualitative composition of organic matter in this raw material can affect the technology, the ecology and the health of the staff as the whole.
