CHARACTERISATION OF PROCESS FILTER MEDIA: A TECHNOLOGICAL APPROACH

Gerakios, M.

Historically the manufacturers of process filter media have been oriented towards textile technology. The measurement of textile parameters previously used for product differentiation from the manufacturer's perspective are not directly relevant to the process filtration duty that the application demands, e.g. the air permeability rating of a process filter media used in a wet filtration application. For the past two years, Albany International has endeavoured to utilise new technologies in addressing these conceptual differences.

The capability to characterise the filtration media prior to application has resulted in a focused development of filtration media. Using examples from both wet and dry process filtration, this paper highlights the new technological approach to filter media characterisation.
