EFFECT OF VARIATION OF THE MINUS 20 MICRON FRACTION ON THE PROPERTIES OF SMELTER GRADE ALUMINA

The effect of the minus 20 micron fraction on the quality of metallurgical grade alumina was studied.

A method using laser technique was tested and checked with ultrasonic sieves in order to determine the minus 20 micron fraction more precisely.

Studies were then carried out to verify the effect of removing electrostatic precipitator dust from the alumina product and the influence of fines proportion on properties that define the behaviour of alumina in the smelters.
