ADVANCES IN THE DEPLOYMENT OF BAYER ALUMINA REFINERY ONLINE MODELS

Further to the successful application of an online model-based generic gross error detection (GED) and data reconciliation system to a number of locations within Alcoa’s alumina refineries (Lee et al, 2012; Lee et al. 2015; Lee et al. 2017), this paper presents further deployment of the existing online models within a new platform. Considered a best practise tool for improving the reliability of the process instruments within the alumina refinery evaporation building, this work demonstrates how the process models were integrated as part of the refinery daily management system. It is aimed at reducing critical instrument failures and deliver financial benefits through improved total evaporation rate and soluble soda recovery.
